bSafe app: what it does, what it costs and UK alternatives

bSafe is a personal safety app from bSafe Group AS, a Norwegian company. It lets you send an SOS to “guardians” you choose (friends and family), share your live location on the way home with Follow Me, start an SOS by voice, stream live video and audio to guardians and trigger a fake call. It is free to download in the UK with paid Premium options from £0.49 a week. It alerts your guardians, so if you are in danger call 999.

In danger now? Call 999

bSafe and similar apps alert people you choose; their store listings don’t say they contact the emergency services. If you are in danger, call 999 (or 112). If you can’t speak, see how to make a silent 999 call.

What is the bSafe app?

bSafe (listed as “bSafe – Never Walk Alone”) is a personal safety app that connects you to a private network of friends and family it calls guardians. Google Play names the developer as Mobile Software AS and the company behind it as Bsafe Group AS in Tønsberg, Norway; the UK App Store lists the seller as Bipper USA, Inc. This guide is about the safety app, not any workplace system with a similar name.

What features does bSafe have?

The bSafe store listings describe these tools:

  • SOS alarm: alerts your guardians, and can be started even when the phone is in your pocket or bag.
  • Voice activation: start the SOS alarm by voice or touch without pressing the SOS button.
  • Live streaming: guardians can see and hear what is happening and track your location.
  • Automatic recording: when the SOS starts, the phone records audio and video and sends the files to your guardians.
  • Follow Me: guardians follow your live GPS location on the way home and get a message when you arrive.
  • Fake call: your phone rings so you have a reason to leave an uncomfortable situation.
  • Guardians: invite as many friends and family as you like.

Is the bSafe app free?

bSafe is free to download, but it sells Premium subscriptions. On the UK App Store on 16 October 2026 these were £0.49 a week, £4.99 a month, £49.99 a year, or £0.99 for 24 hours of Premium features. The listings don’t say exactly which features need Premium, so check inside the app before you rely on one, and cancel through your App Store or Google Play account if you stop using it.

Does bSafe call 999 or the police?

The bSafe store listings describe alerts, live video and recordings going to your guardians; they do not say the app contacts the emergency services. Treat it as a way to reach people you trust, and call 999 yourself in an emergency. Your phone’s free Emergency SOS on iPhone and Android does call emergency services.

Is bSafe on Android and iPhone?

Yes. bSafe is on the UK App Store (iOS 15.0 or later) and on Google Play, where it shows more than a million downloads. When we checked on 16 October 2026, the App Store listed version 4.6.2 from 9 January 2025 and Google Play showed an update on 4 November 2025, so look at the latest version notes before you install.

What does bSafe do with my data?

On its App Store privacy label, bSafe says precise location, contacts and contact details are linked to you, and that contact details are also used for marketing and analytics. Google Play says the app may share location, personal information and contacts with third parties, encrypts data in transit and lets you request deletion. These are the developer’s own statements; read the privacy policy, and never share anyone’s location without their agreement.

What to weigh before you choose bSafe

Who gets the alert?

bSafe alerts your guardians. Only your phone’s Emergency SOS calls emergency services.

Will guardians respond?

An alert only helps if someone sees it in time. Agree with your guardians what they should do.

Free or Premium?

Check which tools you need are in the free version before you count on them.

Battery and data

Live streaming and location sharing need a charged phone and a connection. Carry a power bank.

How do I share my journey without an app?

On iPhone, Check In in Messages tells a friend when you arrive and shares your location, battery and signal only if you are delayed and don’t respond. On Android, Safety Check can run for up to 24 hours and starts Emergency Sharing if you don’t answer within 60 seconds. Our guide to sharing your live location has the steps.

Myths and facts

  • Myth: you need a paid app to share your walk home. Fact: iPhone Check In and Android Safety Check are free and already on your phone.
  • Myth: a safety app tells you which streets are risky. Fact: bSafe doesn’t describe a crime map. For recorded crime near you, use the safety-app.uk crime map.
