Life360 explained: what it does, plans and privacy (UK)

Life360 is a family location-sharing app from Life360, Inc. Its free plan shows your circle’s live location on a map, sends up to 2 place alerts, keeps 2 days of location history and includes crash detection and an SOS alert to family and emergency contacts. Paid Silver, Gold and Platinum plans add more history, more alerts and, on Gold and Platinum, emergency dispatch and roadside help. Its SOS alerts people you choose; in danger, call 999.

In danger now? Call 999

Location-sharing apps tell your family where you are; they are not a 999 call. If you are in danger, call 999 (or 112). If you can’t speak, see how to make a silent 999 call.

What is Life360?

Life360 (listed as “Life360: Family Safety & GPS”) is a location-sharing app made by Life360, Inc. You create a private group called a circle, and everyone in it can see each other on a shared map. It adds place alerts, location history, driving reports, crash detection and an SOS alert, and it links to Tile Bluetooth trackers for keys, bags and wallets. Google Play shows more than 100 million downloads.

Is Life360 free in the UK?

Yes, there is a free plan. On Life360’s UK plans page it includes live location sharing, 2 place alerts, 2 days of location history, a Family Driving Summary, Tile tracking, Crash Detection and the SOS Help Alert. Silver, Gold and Platinum are paid, priced in pounds with a monthly or yearly option and a 7-day free trial. Prices change, so check the current price in the app before you subscribe.

What do Silver, Gold and Platinum add?

According to Life360’s UK plans page, checked 8 October 2026:

  • Silver: 7 days of location history and 5 places with unlimited alerts.
  • Gold: 30 days of location history, unlimited place alerts, Emergency Services Dispatch, 24/7 Roadside Assistance and individual driver reports.
  • Platinum: everything in Gold plus free towing, stolen funds reimbursement (stated in US dollars), disaster response, medical assistance and travel support.

Life360’s page says conditions and limitations apply, and it does not set out UK-specific terms for dispatch, so read them in the app before you pay for a plan to get help in an emergency.

What can your family see on Life360?

Everyone in a circle can see the others on the map while location sharing is on. Depending on the plan, they can also get alerts when you arrive at or leave a saved place, look back through your recent location history and see driving reports. These are the four things to agree on before anyone joins:

Where you are now

Your live position on the circle’s shared map, on every plan.

When you arrive or leave

Place alerts for saved places such as home or school: 2 on Free, 5 places on Silver, unlimited on Gold.

Where you have been

Location history: 2 days on Free, 7 days on Silver, 30 days on Gold.

How you drive

A Family Driving Summary on Free; individual driver reports on Gold and above.

Does Life360 have an SOS button?

Yes. Life360’s UK plans page lists the SOS Help Alert on every plan and describes it as a silent, immediate alert with your location to your family members and emergency contacts. Emergency Services Dispatch is listed only on Gold and Platinum. For a direct 999 call from your phone, set up Emergency SOS on your iPhone or Android, which is free.

What do Life360’s privacy labels say?

On the App Store, Life360’s own privacy label lists location among the data linked to you, lists identifiers as data used to track you, and names third-party advertising among the purposes. Its Google Play data safety section says the app may share location and health and fitness data with third parties, that data is encrypted in transit and that you can ask for data to be deleted. Life360’s privacy policy says ad settings are under “Your Privacy Choices” in the app, and that it does not share or sell the personal information of members it knows to be under 18.

Life360 privacy: myths and facts

Myth: “Life360 calls 999 for me”

Fact: the SOS Help Alert goes to your family and emergency contacts. Emergency dispatch is a Gold and Platinum feature. Call 999 yourself.

Myth: “Only my circle sees my data”

Fact: Life360’s store labels say location may be shared with third parties and data is used for advertising. Check “Your Privacy Choices” in the app.

Myth: “Deleting the app deletes my data”

Fact: delete your account in the app (Privacy, then Additional Data Rights) or email privacy@life360.com. Under UK law it has one month to reply.

Myth: “I can track a partner if I pay for it”

Fact: tracking someone without real agreement can be part of controlling or coercive behaviour, a crime in England and Wales.

How do I delete my Life360 data?

Life360’s privacy policy says you can delete your account in the app under the Privacy section of account settings (Additional Data Rights, then Delete Your Account), or by emailing privacy@life360.com. In the UK you have a right to ask for your data to be erased, and the ICO says an organisation has one calendar month to respond.

Is it legal to track someone with Life360 in the UK?

Sharing location with people who know and agree is legal. Tracking a partner or family member who hasn’t really agreed, or pressuring them to stay visible, can be part of controlling or coercive behaviour under section 76 of the Serious Crime Act 2015 (England and Wales), which carries up to five years in prison. Read what coercive control is and where to get help.

Should I use Life360 for my teenager?

That is a family decision, and it works best with agreement. Talk about why you want it, which alerts you’ll set and when the sharing stops, and let your teen see what you can see. Life360 is rated 4+ on the App Store and PEGI 3 on Google Play. For the wider conversation, read our guide to what to teach children today and can my child walk to school alone?
